****this tuturial is for Educational purpose alone ****

seeing how CS on strong 4669 series decoder is now the main thing,, i have gotten a lot of calls from people on how they can use it and so on.

here's simple how to on what u need to do:

you need to have the following:

1. a strong 4669x, XII, or Z, 4669z is best because it saves you the trouble of looking for or making a serial to RJ45 adapter or a serial to rj45 cross over adapter if you do not have a router, hub or switch. those with the other decoder tyes might need to look for firware that allows them IP settingon their decoder.

2, internet connection: with any of the networks you can get cheap internet for as low as 1000-/month for glo or mtn which are the most reliable.

buy a 3g Modem and and activate the sim card, load 1000 naira and,

MTN: text 106 to 131 to get 100mb/month
GLO text 13 to 127 to get 150mb/month

starcomms, Multilinks and Swift all have flexible package you can also subscribe to.

* by now any serious satellite hobbyist that does not have a working internet plan is just fooling arround. U need internet now, just like you need Air or water on a daily basis.

3,Router is best, save you a lot of wahala but they are not cheap, the cheapest will set you back like 8k plus. if you don't have the cash you can turn your system to a router, but this means that your internet will always be on anytime u want to watch something interesting that is not FTA.

4. a working cline. or just google some free clines. by now there are a lot free clines that will open JSC sport, NOva, ART, PHELA, BADR, SKY Italy etcc and they usual work for like 24hrs. they are excellent for testing. but if you need to really use CLine, u need to get a commercial one that will give yoour heart peace.

5. a very good TV. CRT is old school, FLAT screen is better but if you really need to enjoy it u need a plasma, LCdor LED or 3D tv set.

now let move on:

THOSE WITHOUT ROUTERS, SWITCH OR HUB

fist thing u need to understand is that for your system to share internet with your decoder u need a crossover cable. to eliminate this u need a hub or switch in between and then a regular patch cable.

cross over cable ares easy to make, just get a crimping tool and then switcrh the position of the orange and green pairs and you are set. the only snag in using a crossover cable is that you need to give you box a satic IP address because it will be hard to run DHCP when doing internet connection sharing over a crossover cable. go to the IP setting of your strong decoder and give it a static IP address, something like 192.168.0.23, then subnet 255.255.255.0 and then gateway 192.168.0.1. on your system give your LAN card the IP address 192.168.0.1, subnet 255.255.255. then right click on your internet connection click on the saring tab and let your Local area connection be the source for the sharing., click save and then connect both the BOx and the computer with the cable and then connect your internet.

if everything goes well with a good cline, you shold be screaming eureka.

if not go back to each of the steps and see if there's something you missed. remember if you are using a serial to rj45 adapter and you do not have a router , hub or swwicth, u still need a crossover cable between your system and decoder.

IF YOU CAN AFFORD A ROUTER:

most routers comes with a web interface configuration and they are quite simple and straight forward. the IP address of the router are usual given at the back of the routers. for example http://192.168.0.1 will bring you to the web interface of the engenius router. once you log in, you can manually input the APN, username and password of the network you are trying to use, a 3G router usual have a USB interface at the back for plugin in your 3G routers, some other routers like the BIGPOUND have a sim slot where u just directly plug in a sim thereby nullifying the need for a modem.

once you have done the configuration, the ROuter will automatically connect to the internet and then you can plug in your network cable to connect your devices, the steps for using your strong decoder is the same as outlined before, the only advantage is that with a router the decoder has unlimited access to the internet and you do not need to be arround for anyone in your home to watch.

these things are actually easy to do and in case you run into problems, you have the almight google.com to help. I am available here for any question that you may have.

It's a whole new frontier now, don't be left out!
